Sparkles Kennesaw is the best place in Kennesaw, GA to go roller skating. Whether you are learning for the first time or you are a seasoned skater, everyone will have fun at our rink. If you are coming to our rink and tying on your skates for your first time, we have a few tips to help you learn to roller skate.
Gear Up!
The first step of learning to roller skate is putting on the right gear. You can choose between inline or quad skates, but if this is your first time roller skating, quad skates may be a little easier. Make sure you get skates that actually fit you – too big and they will be hard to skate in, too small and they will hurt your feet.
Hold On to the Wall or a Skate Mate
To help yourself get started, first try skating next to a wall so you can hold yourself up as you go around. If you start to fall or lose your balance, just grab the wall and keep yourself upright. We also have Skate Mates for novice skaters. These are V-shaped PVC stands on wheels that you can hold in front of you to help you gain your balance and coordination while you learn to skate.
Bend Your Knees
Many first time skaters try to skate with their knees locked and legs straight. This is going to make keeping your balance and skating very difficult. Instead, bend your knees so you are almost, but not quite, in a squatting position.
Move Your Feet
Now that you are geared up, you have something to catch your balance on, and you’re in position, its time to start roller skating. Push your feet, one at a time, sideways and behind you is a gentle arcing motion. Remember, you aren’t running or walking in your roller skates, you are gliding around the floor.
If you are a first time skater, we have a friendly environment for you to try on skates for the first time. If you are a more seasoned skater, there is plenty of space for you to speed around and show off your tricks. Everyone is welcome at Sparkles Kennesaw! We hope to see you here soon roller skating, playing in the arcade, tagging your friends in laser tag, or playing with the kids on the indoor playground.
